Chapter 15: Under the Light of the Three Moons
Dawn in the waterfall village created a blue spectacle across the sky of S7. Although the light of the suns was beginning to color the tops of the giant trees, the seven moons were still visible in the sky like dim silver discs. The alignment promised by Sage Orom was getting closer.
After saying goodbye to the tribe and receiving some supplies, the group set off in the cool morning air. Ramsi led the expedition, following the marks on his map; Iris walked beside him, bringing a calm and peaceful feeling to the group, while Jazzi, as usual, gently played her crystal branch, creating cheerful notes that set the rhythm of their steps. Behind them, Willity and Sixsevenin walked together, accompanied by Deri, who ran between the giant ferns, spreading his membranes to make little jumps through the air.
As they left the waterfall's damp surroundings behind, the jungle began to change. The thick trees gave way to an area of low forest filled with translucent rocks that absorbed the morning light. It was there that Deri suddenly stopped, raising the feathers and scales along his back.
Several small creatures emerged from among the rocks. They had rounded shapes and bodies covered in soft, golden-colored fur. They had no legs. Instead, they floated a few centimeters above the ground, using the magnetic energy of the stones to move. They had enormous curious eyes and made a harmonious humming sound, like a soft breeze passing through a musical instrument.
—They are the Rock Luminis, —said Iris quietly, signaling the group to stop.— Very peaceful creatures, but extremely sensitive to movement.
One of the Luminis slowly floated toward Willity. The little Nimbi shyly held out his hand, and the creature landed on his palm, giving off a warm vibration that made Willity smile.
Excited by the discovery, Jazzi played a very soft note with her crystal branch. To everyone's surprise, the Luminis responded by changing to a bright fuchsia color. They began to float in a circle around the group, guiding them for a while through the maze of rocks until they safely reached the main path.
After this fun encounter, the journey continued across more open ground. The long hours of walking gave them time to think.
—It's hard to believe that we are so close to the door again... —Sixsevenin murmured, looking at the horizon.— It is difficult for me to process everything we have discovered since we left the domes.
Willity remained silent for a few steps, keeping his eyes fixed on the sky, where the moons were beginning to change position.
—Ever since I first saw the blue light between the mountains, I haven't stopped thinking about what lies beyond, —Willity confessed, his large dark eyes full of excitement.— I dream about that planet of blue seas and blue clouds that we saw in the carvings. I know it might be a little scary, but... crossing the Blue Nexus, discovering what is on the other side, and seeing that world with my own eyes is what I would like most in the world.
Sixsevenin listened carefully, watching the innocent excitement of his young friend. However, logical questions were beginning to appear in the Master Apprentice's processing core: was that portal a passage open to everyone, or was it only a door to an individual choice? The others continued walking in silence, lost in their own thoughts and thinking about the responsibility of the journey, without yet revealing what decision they would make when the time came. Even so, their desire for adventure and discovery was enough to encourage them to keep moving forward, filled with excitement that kept the group together.
Late in the afternoon, the jungle disappeared completely and the landscape changed dramatically. The great plain appeared before them once again, and the ground became much rockier, with less vegetation.
It was then that Ramsi stopped at the top of a small hill made of runic stone and pointed ahead.
—Look.
In the distance, surrounded by the mist of the faraway landscape and beneath the first golden rays of sunset, they could see the unmistakable outline of the ancient ruins of the lost city. They still had a full day's journey ahead of them, but among the distant vegetation they could see the remains of the buried structures that Sixsevenin and Willity had explored in the past.
