Chapter 14: The Legacy of the Origins

After the peaceful departure of the Guardian of the Mist and its baby, the air in the waterfall village slowly became calm again. The villagers, still amazed by what they had just seen, carefully came out of the oval homes inside the trees. The warriors had put away their light spears and were looking at Willity, Sixsevenin, and the whole group with great admiration.

Sage Orom led the explorers inside his large circular home. The place smelled of fresh resin and wet earth, and its walls were decorated with hand-carved pieces of bark that told stories from long ago.

Once everyone had taken a seat on blankets made from shining fibers, Orom's eyes immediately fell on the creature resting curled up beside Willity. The old man narrowed his eyes in surprise and slowly leaned forward.

—By the pure springs of S7... —Orom whispered with great respect.— It has been many ages since my eyes have seen a shape like this.

Willity gently stroked his companion's back, whose glowing scales made a soft purring sound.

—This is Deri, —said the little Nimbi proudly.— He has been with us since we found him in the jungle and he decided to follow us. Well, actually, he found us, as if he had chosen us as his traveling companions. We decided to call him that after we found a strange stone in the Plains of Echoes. There was an image carved into it of an animal similar to him, together with an inscription that, according to Sixsevenin, was written in one of the first languages of the ancient Sixevenians. According to the carving, that mysterious animal was called Deri.

—Your Deri is not just a traveling companion, little Willity, —explained the Sage, without taking his eyes off the creature.— The oldest records of our planet speak of the beings from which your friend evolved.

The Sage and Deri
Sage Orom recognizes in Deri the legacy of an ancient species connected to the Blue Nexus.

In those distant times, they were simply known as cats.

—Cats? —asked Iris, raising an eyebrow with curiosity.— Is that what they were called?

—That is right, —Orom nodded.— It is said that a great ancestor of his species was legendary for crossing the Blue Nexus between the stars twice. And, in fact, his name was Deri. In the mythology of S7, his species is a symbol of protection and journeys through worlds where time and space are not measured in the same way as they are here. The fact that Deri walks among you today is no coincidence.

Deri raised his head and let out a clear "Miiiauu!", rubbing his little nose against Willity's hand, as if he understood every word the old man had said.

Sixsevenin, impressed by the discovery, stepped forward to return to the reason for their visit.

—Sage Orom, we are looking for a way to contact the Blue Nexus again. The traps in the great pyramid sealed the main entrance we used to get here.

The old man walked toward one of the walls of the room and unfolded a thin piece of bark covered with glowing marks.

—The inside of the great pyramid is not the only structure connected to the Nexus, —Orom revealed.— Beyond the Plains of Echoes, where the ruins of the ancient city stand, there are many buildings buried by time.

Sixsevenin slightly narrowed his eyes as the lights in his circuits flashed a blue-green color. As a Sixevenian, his processing core stored every visual and geographical detail recorded since his awakening.

—That's true... —said Sixsevenin.— Before we met the rest of the group, Willity, Deri, and I entered one of those ruins after crossing the plains. I remember walking through several underground corridors and seeing many other half-buried structures around us. For a while, we thought we were lost in the maze of tunnels we had entered, but Deri seemed to know those passages very well. I have the exact coordinates of that area stored in my memory.

—Exactly, —Sage Orom nodded.— That whole area was a great energy center. Hidden inside one of those structures is a secondary chamber of the Blue Nexus. The ancients designed it as an alternative route in case the central pyramid was blocked.

Ramsi, listening carefully to Sixsevenin's geographical information, displayed a projection of the map of the area.

—If Sixsevenin has the exact route to that area of the ruins, I can plan the safest path to guide the group there through the jungle, —added the tracker.

—That is what you must do, —said Orom solemnly.— But you must be careful. For the door of that structure to activate, you must wait until the first three moons of S7 line up in the night sky above the ruins.

—The three moons! —exclaimed Jazzi excitedly, spinning her crystal branch, which gave off a soft pink glow.— That will happen in only a few cycles!

Willity looked at Deri, feeling a new excitement in his heart. Knowing that his little friend was part of the ancient history of S7 gave him a strange feeling of certainty: the adventure waiting for them when they returned to the structures of the Plains of Echoes would bring them closer than ever to understanding the mystery that connected their home with the stars.

Night fell over the waterfall village, and the first moons began to shine in the sky, showing the way back to the lost city...

Las tres lunas sobre la aldea
The three moons of S7 began to light the way back to the lost city.
